Setup of Iomega Internal IDE ZIP drive 100 or 250 for Real/32

Installing ZIP 100 and ZIP 250 with REAL/32 7.90 Or better

Providing your motherboard and BIOS support the IDE ZIP 100 drive then the ZIP disk will become drive B: ( if only one floppy is installed ) and you should be able to access it like any other floppy without the use of any external device drivers. Make sure you also read the important notes.

Installing ZIP 100 and ZIP 250 with REAL/32 7.83

Download the file DOS_551.EXE from WWW.IOMEGA.COM

Make a directory on your hard drive called IOMEGA

Then run PKUNZIP to uncompress DOS_551.EXE into C:\IOMEGA. Then run IOMEGA.EXE from the C:\IOMEGA directory this will uncompress all the files required.

Add the following device drivers to your MCONFIG.SYS file in this order.

DEVICE  = C:\IOMEGA\ASPIATAP.SYS INFO

DEVICE  = C:\IOMEGA\ASPIPPM1.SYS FILE=NIBBLE.ILM SPEED=10 QUIET

DEVICE  = C:\IOMEGA\SCSICFG.EXE /V

DEVICE  = C:\IOMEGA\SCSIDRVR.SYS

Then add the following lines to your AUTOEXEC.BAT

@SET  SCSI_DRIVER = C:\IOMEGA

@SET SCSI_UTILITY = C:\IOMEGA

Then reboot your REAL/32 system and your zip drive should load.

Setup of Iomega External IDE ZIP drive 100 or 250 for Real/32

Download the IOMEGA drivers and uncompress as per the instructions above.

Add the following device drivers to your MCONFIG.SYS file in this order.

DEVICE  = C:\IOMEGA\ASPIPPM2.SYS FILE=NIBBLE2.ILM SPEED=10 QUIET

DEVICE  = C:\IOMEGA\SCSICFG.EXE /V

DEVICE  = C:\IOMEGA\SCSIDRVR.SYS

Then add the following lines to your AUTOEXEC.BAT

@SET  SCSI_DRIVER = C:\IOMEGA

@SET SCSI_UTILITY = C:\IOMEGA

Then reboot your REAL/32 system and your zip drive should load.

Important Note

If the REAL/32 7.83 system is booted without a ZIP cartridge in the unit you will receive a page fault or worst because of a bug in the IOMEGA ZIP driver. To resolve this problem apply the optional zap C:\REAL32\ZAPS\OPT00025.ZAP to the operating system.

Using the IOMEGA drives reduces the TPA by approx 32kb, but does give a speed benefit over the REAL/32 built in support as the drivers access the hardware directly.

The guest utility supplied with any IOMEGA zip drives does not work with REAL/32.  Only use the drive from a single session, multiple session I/O may corrupt data.

If operating systems prior to 7.83 are used with ZIP drives it is likely that you will have data corruption and a reduced capacity of 32Mb.

You will not be able to format the ZIP disk with the standard REAL/32 format routines you will have to use the IOMEGA disk maintenance tools under DOS.

If you are using the IOMEGA device drivers with 7.8x/7.9 Operating systems then you must ensure that the DOS version returned by the operating system is 6.20.
